AGGIES IN REVIEW – BY: GEORGE KOPF ’22

Football hung on for their eighth straight Southwest Classic victory, volleyball started a long road trip, soccer stayed undefeated in SEC play, cross country dominated, and golf is out to a strong start in this week’s “Aggies in Review.” Here are the details from last week’s action.

Football

The Aggies traveled to AT&T Stadium for the annual Southwest Classic against former Southwest Conference and current SEC rival, the Arkansas Razorbacks. In another hard-fought battle, the result was the same as the last eight years, as the Aggies stopped the Razorbacks on fourth down to clinch a 31-27 victory. The Aggies (3-2, 1-1 SEC) remain at home for the bye week, beginning their preparations for a clash with top-ranked Alabama. That game against the Crimson Tide will kick off at 2:30 PM CT on Saturday, October 12 at Kyle Field and can be seen on CBS.

Women’s Volleyball

The Lady Aggies started SEC conference play last week, finishing off the Alabama Crimson Tide in 4 sets at home. They then took off on their longest road trip of the season, starting it off with a 5-set thriller to the Tennessee Lady Volunteers in Knoxville, TN. Trading set after set with Tennessee, the Aggies fell and dropped to 9-3, 1-1 in SEC conference play. They continue their road trip with games at Arkansas and Missouri on Friday and Sunday, respectively, before returning to Reed Arena on Friday, October 11 to face the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Women’s Soccer

Coming into this week, the Aggies are undefeated in SEC play, outscoring opponents 11-1 in league play. They rolled to a 6-1 home win over Kentucky in the “Go Gold” game, which raised awareness for pediatric cancer, and then followed that up with a 2-0 win over LSU on the road in Baton Rouge, LA. They will take a 9-1-2, 3-0 SEC record into this week, where they will play at Florida and back at home against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Cross Country

Both the men and women teams ran in the Gans Creek Classic meet in Columbia, MO hosted by the University of Missouri. A strong showing helped the Aggies take second-place for the men and women. They are off until another home meet in the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Saturday, October 19 that the Watts Cross Country Course.

Men’s Golf

The Aggies have had a strong start to the season, traveling up north for the Gopher Invitational (University of Minnesota) and the OFCC Fighting Illini Invitational (University of Illinois), where they finished second and fifth, respectively. They stay in-state this weekend, heading up to Carrolton, TX, and Maridoe Golf Club, for a tournament hosted by the University of North Texas.
