National College Basketball Day | College Sports Lab - Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas

College Sports Lab created a National Basketball Day to celebrate the origin, history and evolution of basketball. Learn more about Dr. James Naismith and the history of College Basketball.

NATIONAL COLLEGE BASKETBALL DAY

What is National College Basketball Day?

National College Basketball Day (NCBD) was founded by the CSL. This day was designed to celebrate the origin, history, and growth of basketball.

The invention of basketball by James Naismith in 1891 has brought forth an American tradition which will be honored throughout the month of its creation, December. From 13 original rules, basketball has grown from a casual recreational activity into a highly competitive sport that is played around the world.  Most people do not know how the game began, therefore it is important to bring attention to the origin and history of the sport. This event will honor the growth and popularity of basketball that we enjoy today.

Through National College Basketball Day presented by CSL, we hope to reach individuals and teams throughout the country and embrace the beloved sport of basketball.
