Football got another win into a bye week, volleyball wins their fifth straight, soccer looks to win a SEC Championship, cross country prepares for the NCAAs, swimming & diving fell short against a rival, and basketball season is just about to start all in this week’s “Aggies in Review.” Here are the details from last week’s action.

Football

The Aggies started November with a winning streak, putting away the UTSA Roadrunners 45-14 in the final day game at Kyle Field this season. Isaiah Spiller did his best Trayveon Williams impression, tying the single-game freshman rushing record with 217 yards and three touchdowns, and because of the effort, he was named SEC Freshman of the Week. It took a little longer than normal, but in the ninth game of the season, the Aggies (6-3, 3-2 SEC) clinched bowl eligibility and will be playing in the postseason for the 11th straight year. They head into another bye week, before finishing out the regular season with a tough three-game stretch (South Carolina, at Georgia, and at LSU).

Women’s Volleyball

Speaking of a winning streak, the Lady Aggies have a nice five-game streak of their own, knocking off two ranked opponents last weekend, #15 Kentucky and #24 Missouri. Winning both by a score of 3-1 sets, the Aggies (16-5, 8-3), look ahead to another two-match weekend, as they maintain third place in the SEC. First comes a home match at Reed Arena against Arkansas (8-15, 2-9) on Friday, then they take to the road to face the LSU Tigers (11-10, 5-6) on Sunday.

Women’s Soccer

The regular season finished on a good note, as the Aggies squeaked by Ole Miss on a chilly and spooky Halloween Night. By winning that game, the Lady Aggies (13-3-3, 7-2-1) clinched the fourth-seed in the SEC Tournament and will face fifth-seeded Florida (10-7-1, 6-3-1) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Orange Beach, AL. Should they win that match, they would need two more victories to claim the SEC Championship. Either way, the Aggies are headed to the NCAA Tournament at least with an at-large bid. Cross Country

The cross country team competed in Lexington, KY at the SEC Championships. The men brought home fifth place, while the women came away with ninth place. They each will look ahead to the NCAA South Central Regional meet in Fayetteville, AR on November 15.

Swimming & Diving

Despite all efforts, both the Aggie men and Aggie women came away with defeats in the Lone Star Showdown between Texas A&M and the Texas Longhorns on Friday in College Station. The men were unable to make up an early deficit and lost by 70 points, while the ladies fell short by 32 points. Both teams will be back in action this week as the men travel to the Northeast to take on Boston University on Thursday and Duke and Harvard in a trio-dual meet in Cambridge, MA. The women will stay in the state, traveling down to Houston to take on Rice.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball

It is officially time to welcome in the hoops to Aggies in Review! Both teams start off the season this week with the Maroon Madness doubleheader. The women will play on Tuesday against Arkansas-Little Rock, while the men play Northwestern State on Wednesday. Don’t forget to “Wear White, Rock Reed” as the season begins to heat up in College Station!
