Football took a tough loss to Alabama, volleyball returned to Reed Arena, soccer also faced Alabama, golf had a really good finish and much more in this week’s “Aggies in Review.” Here are the details from last week’s action.
Football
In front of a record crowd of 106,749 at Kyle Field and despite an early 7-0 first quarter lead, the Aggies failed to maintain control and pull off the improbable upset, falling to top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide 47-28. Alabama’s star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was brilliant and caused issues for the Wrecking Crew, passing for 293 yards and four touchdowns, but managed to throw his first interception of the year. The Aggies (3-3, 1-2 SEC) look to bounce back this week on the road against the Ole Miss Rebels (3-4, 2-2). Kickoff from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, MS will be at 6:30 PM and can be seen on the SEC Network.
Women’s Volleyball
The return to Reed Arena was much needed and provided some strong results for the Lady Aggies, as they swept South Carolina in straight sets. They followed up this three-set performance with a stellar 5- set thriller that handed them defeat at the hands of the #14-ranked Florida Gators. The Aggies (11-5, 3-3 SEC) will finalize preparations for the Mississippi Mudslide, heading to that state for matches in Starkville, MS (vs. Mississippi State on Thursday) and Oxford, MS (vs. Ole Miss on Sunday).
Women’s Soccer
Ellis Field was kind to the Aggies again, remaining unbeaten at home, as they played to a 1-1 double- overtime draw against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Leaving their friendly confines, the ladies traveled to Auburn and despite some controversy, came away with a 1-0 victory. Now sitting at 4-1-1 in conference play, and 10-2-3 overall, the Aggies welcome former Southwest Conference rival Arkansas to Ellis Field, and are set to take battle at 7:30 PM on Friday.
Cross Country
After almost a month, the Aggie cross country runners will put their racing shoes back on, as they host the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Saturday at the Watts Cross Country Course. Start time is scheduled for 9:00 AM here in College Station.
Swimming & Diving
Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving season begin this weekend, as they will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at the Rec Center Natatorium in a Friday-Saturday meet. More to come for the Sea Aggies as they look to start the season strong.
Men’s Golf
The Aggie men were able to move up in the final standings at the Maridoe Intercollegiate Tournament, last week in North Texas. Their total combined score of 906 (+42), was good enough to take home the title of runners-up, only trailing the SMU Mustangs by 24 strokes. Next up for the men is a trip to Atlanta for the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational (hosted by Georgia Tech), this upcoming weekend.
