AGGIE MEN’S BASKETBALL VS. SOUTH CAROLINA

The Texas A&M Aggies lost their second-consecutive conference game against the South Carolina Gamecocks on January 18. The Gamecocks set a school record with sixteen 3-point baskets that helped put away the Aggies, shooting a higher percentage (53.3%) from behind the arc than they did from 2-point range (43.3%). The Aggies couldn’t compete from 3-point territory, only making 3-of-14 (21.4%). However, the Aggies did make it to the free-throw line and completed 13-of-17 in the first half to stay in range and headed into halftime trailing 39-33. The Aggies went on a 9-0 run and took the lead 49-48 with just under 11:50 remaining in the second half. Just when things were looking up for the Aggies, the Gamecocks responded with nine 3-pointers and 10-offensive rebounds in the final 12 minutes to put away the game —if they weren’t making shots, they were given a second-chance. The Gamecocks held the Aggies to 0-field goals for the remaining 4:22 of the game, ending on an 11-4 run and finished 81-67. The loss was especially disappointing since the Aggies were favored to win, which speaks on the growth the program has experienced in the last few weeks. As the Aggies swallow this tough loss, they move to 8-8 on the season and look forward to hitting the road as they play Missouri on Tuesday, January 21.
