AGGIE MEN’S BASKETBALL VS. LSU

The Texas A&M Aggies came up short against the LSU Tigers on Tuesday night, January 14, at Reed Arena. The Tigers came out hot as they took a quick 8-0 lead over the Aggies. They later extended that lead to 23-7 with a 15-2 run. Despite the slow start from the Aggies, they responded with 6 three-pointers from Wendell Mitchell, Savion Flagg, and Andre Gordon with  each player making two. They were able to cut the deficit to 10 heading into halftime, trailing LSU 42-32. The Aggies came out holding their own and were able to erase the deficit quickly. Savion Flagg made a three-pointer with 10:41 remaining in the second half that put the Aggies ahead 52-51. It was a tough battle until the very end. Jay Jay Chandler made 2 free throws with 1:51 remaining, but an Aggie turn over and 2 LSU three-pointers later, it was a tied game at the end of regulation —79-79. Heading into overtime, the Tigers hit a three-pointer immediately and never relinquished the lead. The LSU Tigers handed the Aggies their second SEC loss, but the Texas A&M Aggies had their best performance yet. Josh Nebo had a season-high of 20-points, Gordon had 17, Flagg added 16, Mitchell with 11, and Chandler had 10. This was the first time all season, that 5 players finished with double digits. We dropped a season-high in assists with 15 and a season-low in turnovers with 7. Despite not being the best shooting team, the Aggies had a great night from three-point territory making 14-of-35. Although, it was a tough loss, they battled and look to carry the same energy into Saturday, January 18, as they host South Carolina at Reed Arena.
