AGGIE MEN’S BASKETBALL VS. MISSOURI

The below-freezing weather in Columbia, Missouri didn’t stop the Texas A&M Aggies from securing a win on Tuesday, January 21. Both teams were coming off tough losses and were ready to battle on the hardwood for an important conference win. The Aggies went into the game as the underdog and used that as momentum to take an early 16-8 lead on a 9-0 run. After two quick fouls on Josh Nebo, the Tigers went on a 12-0 run to go ahead 20-16 with 5:03 remaining in the first half. The score remained within one possession for the remainder of the half until Missouri’s Mark Smith sank a 3-pointer with 0:06 left, extending their lead to 32-27 heading into half time. Coach Buzz Williams does a great job refocusing and adjusting his team during half time; the Aggies came out hungry and retook the lead with a 10-0 run making it 37-34. The majority of the second-half was a one-to-two possession game; the highest lead was 9 by the Aggies. Missouri hit a 3-pointer with 1:28 remaining to cut the lead to 62-56. A series of fouls and turnovers occurred before the Tigers headed to the free-throw line to potentially tie the game. They made their first free throw, but missed the second one that would’ve tied the game. It was the first missed free throw in 54 attempts, setting an NCAA record for the most consecutive successful free throws. Despite this, the Aggies came out with the victory against the Tigers and won 66-64. The Aggies advance to 9-8 on the season and host Oklahoma State, Saturday, January 25, at 1pm. Those in attendance at Reed Arena will have the chance to win an Aggie Ring Scholarship. Come early and let’s get rowdy!
