AGGIES IN REVIEW – BY: GEORGE KOPF ’22 WEEK OF NOV. 11TH

Football plays its final home game, volleyball stayed hot, soccer looks to beat a rival, swimming & diving had strong weekends, and both basketball teams are undefeated at home. This and much more in this week’s “Aggies in Review.” Here are the details from last week’s action.

Football

After an off week, the Aggies (6-3, 3-2 SEC) put together their final preparations as they await the South Carolina Gamecocks (4-6, 3-4) on Saturday. The final home game of the season gives the six seniors one final time to play at Kyle Field under the bright lights. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM and can be viewed on the SEC Network.

Women’s Volleyball

The win streak was snapped but not before the Lady Aggies beat Arkansas at home in three straight sets on Friday. Heading into Baton Rouge with a six-game win streak showed how strong these Aggies (17-6, 9-4) have played recently, and unfortunately fell in four sets to an unranked LSU team. They look to bounce back this week as they return home for one last home stand, taking on Auburn on Wednesday evening, with first serve set for 8 PM on the SEC Network.

Women’s Soccer

The SEC Tournament did not play out how the Aggies would have liked, losing to Florida 2-1 in Orange Beach, AL. The early exit did not seem to affect their NCAA tournament hopes, as they received an at-large bid for the 25th straight time. In a strange draw, the Aggies (13-4-3) will take on long-time rival and foe, the Texas Longhorns (11-7-1) for just the first time since 2012. This game will be the start to an exciting weekend in Aggieland, as Ellis Field will play host to this matchup at 6:30 PM.

Swimming & Diving

The men return to College Station after a strong weekend out east, defeating Boston University by 32, Harvard by 32 and falling to Duke by 26 points. They take a two-week break before they will defend their back-to-back titles in their home Art Adamson Invite Meet. Meanwhile, on the women’s side, they traveled to Houston and remained unbeaten against Rice, taking them down 158-102. They too will take a break and get back to action for the Art Adamson Invite on November 21.

Men’s Basketball

Reed Arena has been kind to the Aggies, helping Coach Buzz pick up his first two wins as the Aggies’ head man. They took down Northwestern State, 77-63, and slugged out a victory over Louisiana-Monroe 64-57 on Veterans Day. Looking to remain perfect on the year, the Aggies (2-0) will welcome perennial powerhouse #8 Gonzaga (2-0) in the biggest home non-conference game of the season. Tip-off from inside Reed Arena is at 8:00 PM on the SEC Network, so stay up late, join the Reed Rowdies, and get to Reed for an exciting matchup!

Women’s Basketball

The ladies are also enjoying the Reed Arena magic, rolling out to a 2-0 start. They took down Little Rock 78-35 in the season opener, following that big win up with another one against Duke, defeating the Blue Devils 79-58. Sandwiched between those games was an exhibition showdown against the USA National Team, which despite a loss, saw sophomore Chennedy Carter go off for 34 points, breaking a record that stood for 23 years. The Lady Aggies will return to action this Sunday in Houston against the Rice Owls (2-0) and that game can be seen on ESPN+.
