AGGIE MEN’S BASKETBALL VS. TENNESSEE
The Texas A&M Aggies secured their third- straight road SEC victory against the Tennessee Vols on Tuesday, January 28. It was a slow start to the early 5:30 p.m game in Knoxville, Tennessee but the Aggies managed to get the job done. The starters for the Aggies consisted of Josh Nebo, Emanuel Miller, Wendell Mitchell, Savion Flagg, and Andre Gordon. Wendell Mitchell led the team with 23 points on 5-of-20 from the field, 4-of-14 three-pointers, and a perfect 9-9 from the free-throw line. Quenton Jackson was the other player in double figures with 11 points off the bench. Texas A&M forced seven turnovers and limited Tennessee to only 20 shots in the first half taking the Aggies into halftime with the lead at 25-24. The Vols came straight out of the gate ready to go, scoring eight easy points to go up by seven. That didn’t last long when the Aggies picked up the defensive intensity forcing eight straight missed Tennessee field goals over a six-minute drought. From there on out, it was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. It boiled down to crashing the boards: Texas A&M had 23-offensive rebounds compared to Tennessee’s 4, allowing sixteen-second chance points for the Aggies and just three for the Vols. The game was tied at 53 with under a minute remaining when Texas A&M’s Wendell Mitchell drained a three-pointer from the top of the key taking the lead. A series of free throws followed to end the game with a final score of 63-58. The Aggies head to Athens, Georgia as they look to get their fourth consecutive road win against the Bulldogs on Saturday, February 1.
