AGGIE MEN’S BASKETBALL VS. OKLAHOMA STATE
The Oklahoma State Cowboys handed the Texas A&M Aggies their third consecutive home-game loss Saturday, January 25. The Aggies entered the matchup 6-3 on their last nine games while the Cowboys entered on a six-game losing streak. The Aggies didn’t have an issue getting on the board fast and took an early 16-12 lead from a series of three-pointers and a baseline dunk by Quenton Jackson with 12:11 remaining in the first half. However, they went on to complete only four more field goals to trail 34-26 at halftime. The Cowboys were not slow to start the second half as they took a 41-29 lead off of a 7-2 run. The next seven points would come from Texas A&M guard, Jay Jay Chandler, who seemed to be the only one in rhythm for the Aggies. It wasn’t until 7:24 left to play when Chandler got called for a charge under the basket after running into Oklahoma State’s Cameron McGriff and stepping on the back of his head while getting up from the play. After review, Chandler was charged with a technical foul and ejected from the game. McGriff sunk both free throws and pushed the Cowboys lead to nineteen. Jay Jay Chandler took the matter to Twitter posting an apology that said, “I want to apologize to Cam McGriff, Oklahoma State, my coaches and teammates and the 12th Man for my actions in today’s game. I never meant any harm towards Cam and what happened doesn’t represent who I am or the program.”
The Aggies were never able to fully recover, although, they were able to close the gap to eleven, eventually falling to the Cowboys, 73-62. The Aggies shot just 39% (23-of-59) from the field. The frontcourt duo of Emanuel Miller and Josh Nebo were able to produce 11 points each while the remaining three of the starting five, Andre Gordon, Savion Flagg, and Wendell Mitchell combined for only seventeen points total. Texas A&M didn’t get the outcome they hoped for but they remain optimistic as they travel to the University of Tennessee to battle on Tuesday, January 28.
