AGGIE MEN’S BASKETBALL VS. CORPUS CHRISTI
After a four-game losing streak, the Aggies secured a much-needed win against Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Sunday, December 15 in Reed Arena. The Islanders trailed 31-24 at halftime then increased their lead to 11 within just 2 minutes of the second half, but the Aggies put things into overdrive and regained the lead with a slam dunk by Josh Nebo pushing the Aggies ahead 48-47 with a little less than half-way to go in the second half. The teams traded buckets for the remainder of the game, keeping no more than a two-point distance until the final minute when the Aggies made 5-of-6 free throws to win the game by three points: 63-60. For the first time this season, the Aggies used the lineup of Josh Nebo, Emanuel Miller, Savion Flagg, Mark French, and Quenton Jackson. The team shot 40.8% (20-for-49) from the field and 78.3% (18-for-23) from the free-throw line, tying their season-low on turnovers at 12. The freshman guard Emanuel Miller put up a career-high 20 points for the Aggies on 7-of-8 shooting from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. This spectacular performance landed Miller the “SEC Freshman of the Week.” The Texas A&M Aggies had four players with 10-or-more points for the first time this season, making this win a collective group effort. Jay Jay Chandler spoke on approaching conference play saying, “we just have to follow those [game plans], and just go out there and play and give it our all. We just have to work together, and try to get more wins.” The Aggies look to build on this win as they host Oregon State on Saturday, December 21 in College Station.
